1 stick butter

2 cup sugar

4 eggs

2 & 1/2 cup flour

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp cloves

1/2 cup water

1 tsp soda dissolved in the water

3 fresh apples diced

1/2 to 1 cup pecans chopped

Sift flour measure and sift again. Add cinnamon and cloves in flour. Cream butter and sugar; add eggs and beat well. Add flour and water alternately beginning and ending with flour. Fold in diced apples and nuts. Cook 300 degrees for 1.5 hours with pan of water on rack under cake.
