2 cup white corn meal

1 cup onion chopped

1 to 1/2 cup flour

1 & 1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp soda

1 tsp sugar

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 cup buttermilk or enough beer to moisten

1 egg beaten

1/2 cup butter or oil

3/4 cup water if needed

Combine corn meal, flour, salt, soda, sugar and baking powder. Add onion, buttermilk (or beer) and water. Beat egg lightly and stir in butter. Combine this with other mixture. Drop by teaspoon into hot cooking oil 370 degrees. Makes 30 hushpuppies.
